Search terms
A name, place, or other term entered into a search box is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Jefferson County Released Inmates does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider's privacy terms govern its processing.
Messages
If you send an email or contact submission, we retain the information needed to read and answer it. We do not disclose that message outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Automatic Visit Information
Normal web operations may record technical and usage details when a page loads. Those details can include:
- the connecting IP address;
- browser name and version;
- device category and operating system;
- pages opened and time spent on them;
- the referring website, when available; and
- the date and time of a request.
Cookies

Websites Beyond Our Control
Links lead to WVDCR searches, Jefferson County offices, court and release-record portals, federal locators, and private search services. Once a visitor leaves, the destination's privacy notice controls its collection and use.
Some advertising companies may measure activity across websites to select interest-based ads. That tracking occurs through their systems rather than a database run by Jefferson County Released Inmates.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be processed by:
- search partners that receive a submitted query;
- analytics vendors that measure site use;
- advertising networks serving or measuring ads; and
- law enforcement or other government bodies acting under a valid legal order.
Reasonable Security Measures
We use standard safeguards intended to protect the systems and information within our control. No internet transmission, connected server, or storage method can be guaranteed breach-proof. Visitors should avoid placing sensitive information in ordinary messages.
Visitors Under Eighteen
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has submitted information, a parent, guardian, or the person concerned may use the Contacts page to request deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and our ability to verify the request, a person may:
- ask for a copy of personal data we hold;
- request correction of inaccurate information;
- ask that eligible personal data be erased; or
- object to or opt out of certain processing.
These rights concern information controlled by this private site. Requests for government records remain governed by West Virginia law, including the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act procedure, and must go to the public body that holds them.
Changes to This Notice
Privacy practices and service providers may change. A revised notice becomes effective when posted here with its updated effective date. Continued use after posting means the visitor accepts the revised practices.
